3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
This presentation will consist of three sections:
- IDEA as a cultural statement – A discussion of the cultural values embedded in our Special Education laws and specific recommendations for working with families in the IEP process who may have a different point of view. The work of Kalyanpur and Harry will be highlighted.
- Supporting inclusive parent involvement and its impact on school climate – A discussion of the value and impact parent involvement has on student outcomes and school climate as well as strategies which can be used to encourage the participation of CLD families.
- Coordination of services in schools with high CLD populations – Schools with high populations of CLD students often find themselves struggling to serve the variety of needs they face. A Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) approach will be described as well as a real-life case study so that participants have tangible examples of implementation.
