3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

This presentation will consist of three sections:

  1. IDEA as a cultural statement – A discussion of the cultural values embedded in our Special Education laws and specific recommendations for working with families in the IEP process who may have a different point of view. The work of Kalyanpur and Harry will be highlighted.
  2. Supporting inclusive parent involvement and its impact on school climate – A discussion of the value and impact parent involvement has on student outcomes and school climate as well as strategies which can be used to encourage the participation of CLD families.
  3. Coordination of services in schools with high CLD populations – Schools with high populations of CLD students often find themselves struggling to serve the variety of needs they face. A Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) approach will be described as well as a real-life case study so that participants have tangible examples of implementation.
