P-13: Eating Disorders as a Coping Mechanism for Emotional Regulation
3:30 p.m. – 4:20 p.m.

This presentation intends to explain eating disorders as a coping mechanism for emotional regulation in order to offer school supports and better services to students. School-based studies support that there are students who engage in eating disorder behaviors (e.g., dieting, bingeing, purging, etc.). The presentation will explain how eating disorders help alleviate undesirable emotions and/or negative affect. Suggested tiered level strategies will also be discussed. Participants will receive a handout with resources as well.
