P-11:Understanding and Supporting Positive School Climates
4:30 p.m. – 5:20 p.m.

It’s crucial that school climates are safe, positive, and support equitable and healthy experiences for all members of a school community, including students with diverse characteristics. A school’s climate refers to its social, physical, and academic environments; its a holistic view of the school system and how it affects the people involved. School psychologists play a crucial role in assessing, advocating for, and implementing evidence-based ways to promote positive and healthy school climates for students. This paper presentation will cover why school climate matters, review the research and benefits of having a positive climate, and discuss ways to promote and evaluate a positive and equitable school climate.
