M-16: Language Difference or Language Delay: Assessing English learners

Given the prevalence of students who speak a language other than English in California schools, it is imperative that school psychologists are able to distinguish between typical second language acquisition and learning delays. Attendees will learn about best practices in assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse students who are referred for a specific learning disability. Attendees will gain knowledge of various tools to gather data and assist in differentiating between a language difference and a specific learning disability.
