M-01: California SUMS (Scaling Up Multi-tiered System of Support Statewide)
1:30 p.m. – 2:50 p.m.

This mini-skills workshop will review California’s Scaling Up Multi-tiered System of Support (SUMS) initiative to encourage and support local education agencies to establish and align school-wide, data-driven systems of academic, behavioral and social emotional supports to meet the needs of California’s diverse learners in the most inclusive environment. As a result of this workshop participants will gain (a) an understanding of the SUMS conceptual framework including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Implementation Science, and a Whole Child approach; (b) an understanding of the five domains and 10 features that comprise the California SUMS implementation framework, and (c) a deeper look at the Inclusive Academic and Inclusive Behavior Instruction components of the SUMS MTSS Domain. Participants will also examine case study practices from current Knowledge Development Sites (KDLs), schools/districts that have been implementing SUMS since spring of 2017.
