Keynote Speaker Dr. Shaun R. Harper is the president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education and an elected member of the American Educational Research Association executive council. In 2015, Dr. Harper was named to the advisory council of the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, an initiative launched by President Barack Obama to improve the lives of boys and young men of color.
Dr. Harper has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and other academic publications, as well as 12 books, including the recently released Scandals in College Sports. This fall, Johns Hopkins University Press will be publishing Dr. Harper’s Race Matters in College.
CASP President Pedro Olvera will present his presidential address Equity: The Battle Has Just Begun, prior to Dr. Harper’s presentation. The Director of Brandman University’s School Psychology graduate program, Dr. Olvera is a published writer and teacher in the area of assessment of ELLs, cognitive assessment, and enhancing collaboration with Latino families. He also focuses on providing leade rship and advocacy for mental health experts by working to empower school psychologists through professional development and ensuring that the voices of the culturally diverse are heard.
