R-13: The Impact of a Culturally Sensitive Writing Intervention for English Learners

Ask, Reflect, Text (ART) is a writing intervention that has been shown to be effective in improving the complexity of writing for students. However, no research has shown its effectiveness when paired with a culturally responsive component for an English Learner (EL). An alternating treatment design was used to measure the complexity of writing and the impact of including a culturally responsive component for one EL student. Results showed large effect sizes for the intervention in improving complexity of writing, particularly with a cultural component.
