P-09: Advocacy and Equity: Why Parents Pursue Assistance with the IEP Process

This presentation is intended to provide school psychologists with information regarding when and why parents utilize advocates – they desire equity for their children. By attending this paper presentation, school psychologists of all skill levels will understand how families arrive at the decision to pursue advocacy in an attempt to facilitate collaborative interactions between schools and families. Attendees will leave with the skills necessary to resolve conflicts and aid in educational decision-making that is in the best interest of a student with an IEP.
