M-15: A School Psychologist’s Role in Supporting Transgender and Genderqueer Youth
3:30 p.m. – 4:50 p.m.

School psychologists play a key role in supporting transgender and genderqueer students. By working together with school teams, families, and community-based organizations, school psychologists can help ensure that their school sites are welcoming, equitable, and inclusive for transgender and genderqueer students. Participants will learn the differences between gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression, as well as understand the importance of affirming youth through the use of respective names/pronouns. Explore your own biases in understanding and working with LGBTQ+ youth, and become empowered to support school teams by assisting in the assessment of current school environment and resources.
