This mini skills workshop promotes knowledge of trauma-informed practices and develops skills important to addressing the consequences of toxic stress. Topics of discussion include making the distinction between positive, tolerable and toxic stress, the role of complex trauma in school adjustment and academic achievement, and how practices associated with mindfulness can be used to promote mental wellness. From this session it is anticipated participants gain knowledge important to helping fellow educators (and students themselves) appreciate the role of trauma in school adjustment and academic achievement. In addition it is anticipated that workshop participants will develop skills important to using mindfulness-based practices in the school setting.
